The Czech Business Relations with Asia
In January of 1997, the Czech Republic/Asia Business Association, a non-profit, non-governmental organization, was established, with the complete cooperation of the Singapore Trade Development Board. Its objective was to offer broad-spectrum assistance to cultural and commercial interaction between the Asian Countries and the Czech Republic, while defending and sustaining the union of the members’ varied business interests.
In 2007, the Czech/Asian Business Forum brought Asian businesses to the Czech Republic for the very first time. Participating were 37 Asian plus 122 Czech forum attendees, 10 official forum diplomats and official guests, as well as 27 business delegates. The 2007 event was supported by the Czech Republic’s largest commercial bank, CSOB, which specializes in the area of international trade financing. A key contract, governing a major Czech investment in a Mongolian gold mining project, was successfully executed during the 2007 forum.
Subsequently, in 2008 the forum was attended by 44 Asian and 157 Czech participants, 15 diplomats and official guests, plus 29 business delegates. That year, the forum brought about the execution of an agreement between the Czech/Mongolian Chamber of Commerce and Fifta Mongolia, plus several agreements regarding significant infrastructure projects between CSOB and their clientele.
The 2009 forum was attended by 47 Asian and 193 Czech participants, 20 official guests and diplomats, and 27 business delegates. The Czech Export Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development and the Czech Prime Minister substantially supported the forum, plus the Czech Republic Ministry of Finance moderated.
In 2010, the forum focused on fighting the world economic crisis and was attended by the Prime minister of the Czech Republic, as well as the Czech Republic’s Minister of the Environment. During the forum, an important memorandum was successfully negotiated and signed between the Czech Republic’s Association of Exporters and the Federation of Exporters from India. The main topic of the forum was sustainable development and the Indonesian Royal Family visited the event. Also in attendance were 212 Czech and 55 Asian business participants. The Asian businessmen were from Mongolia, Vietnam, Korea, Indonesia, India and Singapore.
