Betta Fishes at my Student Home :)

Betta fish are really cool and pretty fish to have. I bought a betta fish a couple of times. At first I kept the tiny fish in a small bowl just like they have them in at the store. Because betta fish can breathe air like people do and in the water as well, this is why you can keep them in such a small bowl.

After about a week of watching my fish swim in this small area, I decided I wanted him to have more room. So he could swim farther. So I bought a 10 gallon fish tank and some accessories to spruce up the tank. First I washed everything out really good with soapy water, the tank and the accessories. I also bought an air pump so the fish would have more air and the water wouldn’t get stale. Once I got the fish tank and his new trimmings washed well, I filled the tank up with water and put the trimmings in place as I wanted them. I let the water sit for a while so I wouldn’t shock the fish when I first put him in the water. I actually waited about 24 hours before I put my fish in his new home.
I also got a plecostomus or an algae eater for the tank. The plecostomus would eat the algae in the fish tank so I wouldn’t have to change the water as often. This type of fish can usually be found stuck to the side of the fish tank.
Once I put my betta fish in his beautiful new home, he swam away looking at all the new surroundings he had. A sunken treasure chest at the bottom of the tank, some pretty rocks and glass stones and a huge rock I bought that had a hole in the middle of it so the fish could swim in and out of it.
After my fish got use to his new place, I decided I better feed him. I bought some betta fish food which was freezed-dried blood worms. I would only feed him a couple of times a day so the water wouldn’t get cloudy to fast and the fish wouldn’t get sick.
I ended up having to put something on the back of the fish tank because the fish could see his reflection. I bought the pretty fishy looking background design they had at the pet store but this didn’t work. He could still see himself. It was Christmas time so I ended up putting some Christmas wrapping paper with Santa on it on the back of the outside of the tank. Problem solved. My betta fish ended up living about 3 years.
